I don't think anything prepared me for Katavi, how raw and wild it was going to be. I wasn't expecting all those elephants, they came right through camp every day, and the massive herds of buffalo that kept me entertained right on the plains in front of camp. I was told that as the dry season progressed, before the rains came, that everything became more intense - hippos piled up in pools of water that grew ever smaller...many of them would die. Katavi made me think that this must have been how safaris were generations ago - when the world was vast, and man's reach was smaller; where you could still be a pioneer. I felt like that at Chada and I think it's going to spoil me for any other safari. All my thanks to Mark & Kristen for showing me their most amazing world.
